I find your letters are very sensitive and that you, in your letters, are a talented observer. Had you not mentioned the perm or the bottle of caster oil in last week’s letter, much of my visual imagining would have been deprived of the scene’s situation in time and place. It is unfortunate that your critic has not read enough to see what you are doing, that your style is very personal and thus endearing. Ah well, critics are a dime a dozen and while it is always useful to consider their words, in this case I hope and expect you will ignore them.

As an aside, I visited your store last August and having never hooked before, bought the biggest canvas in the store, Posies by the Village by the Sea. It covers the top of my dining room table and is about half done. A wonderful memory of my time in Nova Scotia!

I enjoy listening or reading your stories. Just like “history” can be his story or her story, these are your stories. And they are out there for all posterity, for us to enjoy. And I am 72, and wasn’t offended or felt targeted, but that is perhaps because I am very active, and age is just a number. We are as old as we feel and act, and none of my textile friends feel or act old!!!

I hope you and your friends never lose that! Thank you Germaine

I always watch these lives right to the end. 🙂 I loved Deanne’s Sunday Letter – her description of the situation was so good I could totally picture the scene and the woman in my mind. As an editor, I would probably also say there are too many “I’s” and yet, that is the only way to truly share your own opinions, dreams, hopes, experiences, and more. (And as an editor, I never have counted how many times Deanne has used the word “I”).

Hi Deanne. I just finished watching your Thursday Live. I too read your Sunday Letter and thoroughly enjoyed it. As a retired teacher, I understand the use of “I” in writing is sometimes overused, but in reading your letter about the woman in her store, I felt her loneliness and determination to maintain her dignity and purpose in life. I’d like to think that you put a smile on her face…even if it was just to say hello. These were the thoughts that ran through my mind as I read your story. I Love the way that you always strive to bring the “humanness” in the people you talk about, but more importantly you allow everyone to feel heard and appreciated. Thank you!
