I am so happy that my Up the hill inspired you to make it a pattern of the month. So many times we get inspired when we see a pattern hooked. This is how I end up ordering from you, by seeing somebody post their work.
That makes me happier. Thanks and enjoy your day!

Thanks for recommending Niall Williams’s book This is Happiness! I couldn’t get it as an audiobook so I ordered a copy – read it in 3 days time and enjoyed every sentence- he has an exquisite sense of timing and culture.

It’s actually ‘friars balsam’. Kind of a sticky dark liquid with a strong balsam smell. My grandmother in Cape Breton used to pour it on a spoonful of sugar when anyone had a sore throat. Pretty vile but it worked. I haven’t heard of it for years!!! Made my day, lol!
