A book that made me stop and think – Ishmael by Daniel Quinn. CBC radio polled readers for books that changed their lives – this is it. I had an engineering student as part of my team a number of years ago and he was a sweet young man that was also a little lofty, as most are at that age. There are certain people that I know this book will resonate with and he was someone that I thought would “get it”. It took a couple of days to get him into the book, then one day he came in looking disheveled – he had been awake most of the night reading the book. He then held evening discussions with his friends and fellow students to discuss the book. When his work term was over he left me a lovely note to thank me for the opportunity and “…for Ishmael, it has changed my life forever.” The power of books!
