Lunch for one is often a fried egg. Or left overs. Toast and cheese.
But why? Oh why?
Why not treat yourself like a guest in your own life.
Imagine.
Making something beautiful for yourself. And setting a place at the table. With a glass of ice water beside it with a slice of lemon in it. Oh and put it in a wine glass. Get fancy.
A friend gave me some cilantro yesterday. So I will take it and chop it fine. I only like a little. And a fresh tomato with avocado, chopped. Oh yes. A squeeze of lime over it all. Maybe a little chilli? There is some fried shrimp from last nights dinner. I am going to lay the lettuce on the plate, cover it with tomato and avocado salad. Arrange the shrimp nicely and pick a green onion from the garden to top it off and I am going to sit still and enjoy a lovely lunch.
I am going to be a guest here in this place that is my own.
And I am going to try and eat slowly. My big weakness is rushing through food.
I wish I could say it was my one big weakness but I have many.
I break glasses, interrupt people, drift off in conversations, and well, I could go on and on, but back to doing sweet things....
I used to do this for my children sometimes. Make them feel like a special guest, with fancy celery sticks and open faced sandwiches that smiled up at them. I wonder if they remember. Little bumps on a log, celery filled with cream cheese and raisins on top. They were sweet, such sweet little souls. Still are.
So today in this quiet day I will do this for myself. I will take the time to prepare a place at the table for myself.
For sometimes we have just ourselves to care for. And in that time we should care for ourselves well and good, and love ourselves as if we were the guest, or the sweet little should who blesses you.
Drop by and have some tea and homemade oatcakes.
