The Year In Landscape is a four-part workshop series that celebrates the publication of Deanne’s new book (Hooking the Landscape, Schiffer 2025) that explores the strength and beauty of hooking the landscape. Each session includes a downloadable seasonal pattern inspired by the original rug, a live video workshop with detailed instruction and Q and A, and creative tools to help you capture your own personal landscape. Whether you’re a long-time rug hooker or just beginning your journey, this course will help you create a meaningful body of work inspired by the world around you.

Session 1: October 25, 2025 - Autumn Fields & Forest

Theme: Letting Go & Gathering Beauty.

Focus: Foreground Flowers such as Tansy, Queen Annes Lace Colour blending, distant hills, skies.

Techniques: Layering colours, using warm and muted tones, adding movement to sky, flowers and grass.

Creative Perspective: What does fall feel like in your life?


Materials: Includes a pattern inspired by Past August.

Colours: Rich autumn palette (rusts, golds, ochres, soft greys), landscape template or freehand option

What’s Included:

• A live video workshop with Deanne, packed with teaching, tips and strategies (recordings will be available). Plus creative suggestions, activities and prompts. 

• Includes a downloadable rug hooking pattern (PDF, ready to print or trace and can be any size you wish). 

• Access to a private online community where you can post your progress and ask questions as you work on each rug (optional).
