Everything starts with a story, especially when it comes to rug hooking. And there are so many stories still waiting to be told. Yours might be one of them. 

Here is my story...

This year I turned sixty and one thing I keep thinking is, "Who will teach rug hooking the way I do, when I am no longer teaching?" So I have decided that now is the time to teach rug hookers how to teach others the inspiring, creative style of rug hooking that I have developed over the last thirty-five years. I want to create and mentor a group of teachers who can inspire students to hook in this style, using patterns, kits, and designs from Deanne Fitzpatrick Studio.

For generations hooking rugs was a way for women to make extra money. Pedlars would go door to door and women would sell the rugs they hooked over the winter in exchange for a square of linoleum for their floors or some extra money. There is a tradition of cottage industries where women sold their rugs in places like Cheticamp in Cape Breton, or the Grenfell Mission of Newfoundland, and many other places. Rug hooking has always been associated with women running micro businesses, and I want to mentor and empower women to continue in this tradition.

This fall, I will debut a workshop that will enable you to teach our patterns and designs in your community with our permission. You'll be allowed to purchase our kits and patterns for your classes at a discounted price and earn an income from your teaching and from selling the kits and patterns to your students.

In my career I have taught and inspired thousands of people how to hook rugs. I know how to help students get excited and finish their work. In this course I will teach you how to teach with an adult learning model that delights, inspires, and most importantly, makes them want to hook rugs.

I will train you to teach rug hooking in my fearless and painterly style. You will learn how to teach technique, but also how to inspire students to tap into their own creativity. You will help them find the joy of rug hooking.

We will create a legacy of learning and creativity amongst rug hookers that lets women teach in a grassroots, person-to-person way. I will teach you how to teach, how to organize and manage workshops, and give you the creative business tools that you need to make this a reality. 

Once you have finished this course you will be ready to teach and you'll also have access to wholesale pricing on DFS patterns and kits. It will be an opportunity for you to inspire people in your community, either online or in person, to hook along with you. And you can use this opportunity to teach creatively in your own community and earn money from it.

Through a series of live and recorded online workshops you will learn everything you need to know to teach others. You'll learn to put it all into practice, and be able to host paid or volunteer workshops in your community. This course will transform you from being a rug hooker into someone who can teach and inspire others to create beauty everyday. This is an opportunity for you to learn, to earn, and to grow creatively. 

This workshop will prepare you to teach our designs and patterns so that you have choice for yourself and your students.

I believe we will have a good core group of teachers who will want to teach our patterns and designs in the Deanne Fitzpatrick Studio style. You'll be able to choose what you want to teach from hundreds of my designs (and I'm adding new ones all the time!). Once you teach people to hook, they'll come to your workshops again and again to create more of my patterns.

This program will inspire you to teach our designs and patterns and when you are ready to teach your class you will be given the opportunity to buy our patterns and kits at a special rate for resale to your students and customers.

You will receive the initial four week course for $599. (But you can recover this cost through teaching your workshops!)

Some of you will want to take the course for your own personal learning and may not want to teach and that is OK too. We welcome you to learn with us.

The course will be released in November 4, 2025. There will be four live teaching workshops through out November as well as other video and learning material. All lives classes will be recorded as well.
