We were pretty poor. My aunt and mom lived with 5 kids in a 2 bedroom house so we weren’t allowed to play inside unless it was miserable out. Christmas was a colouring book, a small pack of crayons, Plastasine and a few pieces of Lego. It made being inside creative time for sure.

In my neighborhood we melted canyons to make candles. we ran out of our favorite colors so we came up with a scheme to go house to houses saying we were on a scavenger hunt and we needed a blue crayon. We were able to get just the colors we needed with out buying a whole box. People seemed happy to give them to us.

Ah crayons! I remember opening a new box and reveling in the smell and the explosion of colour and the uniformity of them all lined up. My favourite color was violet. I love when you bring up childhood memories and encourage us to do the same, Deanne. Now Crayola makes 120 size packs of crayons….I might faint if I got that! I was so upset when the crayons broke or got shorter with a lot of use.

Well didn’t this episode just move me to tears! Sometimes I wonder how I can best express my gratitude to you Deanne, for bringing this practice down to earth for me and consistently welcoming me to just show up to my work with willingness to be imperfect and curiosity for what will be revealed. This episode shows me that the best way is to keep showing up for myself, share it when I can and let it bring me joy. Your joy is infectious and my gratitude is overflowing. So many thanks for sharing your process and the work of others on your amazing team.
